Advice for aspiring dancers: “Be positive and expose yourself to as much as possible, whether it’s teachers, music [and] other styles of dance.”

A native of Milwaukee, WI, Kara received her formal training with Milwaukee Ballet School where she was the first recipient of the Peter Schetter Award. During her training Kara was invited to the Vail International Workshop, where she worked with instructors from the Bolshoi and Paris Opera. She danced for five seasons with Milwaukee Ballet where she performed works by choreographers such as George Balanchine, Alonzo King and Lila York. After working with King, Kara participated in his professional intensive program. In 2006 Kara joined Ballet Victor Ullate in Madrid and spent a year touring with the company throughout Spain. In 2009 Dance Magazine named Kara to its “25 to Watch” list of leading young dancers.
