Teen/Adult Clases

Teen/Adult Division classes offer a variety of disciplines including ballet, modern, jazz, Afro-Caribbean, hip-hop and tap for older teens and adults. Flexibility in scheduling and single class payments are offered to meet the varied needs and interests of teens and adults. All classes are appropriate for both male and female students. Classes are held at North Carolina Dance Theatre Studios and Spirit Square.

Class Descriptions

BEGINNING BALLET
Learn the fundamentals of classical ballet while experiencing the joy of movement and creative expression inherent to this art form.
 
INTERMEDIATE BALLET
For students who are at an intermediate level in their ballet training.
 
BEGINNING TAP
Class focuses on developing solid tap technique and skills, including coordination, body alignment and rhythm. Student’s learn technique, combinations and choreography.
 
INTERMEDIATE TAP
Recommended for students interested in pursuing tap beyond the elemental level. Students develop skills with more complicated tap rhythms and movements.
 
BEGINNING MODERN
Students explore spatial relationships and rhythmic patterns. Class concentrates on proper body alignment, use of breath, core strength and the development of a beginning technical vocabulary.

AFRO-CARIBBEAN
Class is rooted in the technique of legendary African-American dance pioneer Katherine Dunham, and fuses Afro-Caribbean folk movements and rhythms with modern dance.
 
HIP-HOP
Students experience a fusion of movement styles such as funk, pop, west coast and African dance set to popular music.

Dress Code

There is no official dress code for Teen/Adult classes. We encourage you to wear comfortable clothes that allow freedom of movement. If you are just trying out a class, feel free to come barefoot.

Shoe Requirements

Ballet – ballet shoes 
Tap – tap shoes 
Modern & Afro-Caribbean – no shoes required
Jazz & Hip-Hop – jazz shoes, dance sneakers or ballet shoes can be worn

NO REFUNDS on class cards for any reason, including illness, injury, a move or lost or stolen cards. Cards are non-transferable and may be used only by the person whose name is printed on the card. Cards are good only for the class printed on card (jazz, modern, hip-hop, tap, ballet, Afro-Caribbean).

Cards may be purchased at the door before class or over the phone by credit card. Cards ordered by phone will not be mailed, but will be held for pick up at the front desk in the student’s name. Students must present card at sign-in desk. Student will not be allowed to take class without card.

Attendance Policy

Consistent attendance is vital to achieve maximum results and progression in dance training. Although drop-ins are welcome, students in the Teen/Adult Division are encouraged to attend class regularly. The School of Dance requires at least four students to be present in class. If classes are not held for three weeks due to low attendance, the class will be called off for the semester.
