North Carolina Dance Theatre School of Dance Announces Collaboration with
UNC Charlotte

High School Dance Students to Earn College Credit

Charlotte, N.C. – North Carolina Dance Theatre School of Dance is pleased to announce a new collaboration with the University of North Carolina at Charlotte – an Escrow Program for high school students. This new program provides an opportunity for qualified high school students to gain college credit while training at NC Dance Theatre School of Dance.

“The UNC Charlotte Escrow Program is such an advantage for the School of Dance because it allows serious dance students the chance to earn college credit for the time they dedicate to their dance training,” said Darleen Callaghan, School of Dance director.

Applicants qualified for participation in this program must be registered in Ballet Level 4 or higher at NC Dance Theatre School of Dance. Further eligibility will be determined by standardized test scores, high school course selection and GPA, as well as recommendations from principals, guidance counselors and the director of NC Dance Theatre School of Dance. If accepted, students can receive four credit hours per semester for their training hours spent at the School of Dance, for a potential of 16 hours of elective credit. Upon graduating high school, credit hours may be transferred to another college.

To be considered for enrollment students need to submit a UNC Charlotte Escrow Program Application, one official high school transcript, official standardized test scores and a $50 application fee. Students who subsequently apply to UNC Charlotte as freshmen after being in the Escrow Program will have their application fee waived. Students may obtain an application by e-mailing Tina McEntire, director of admissions, at tmmcenti@uncc.edu.

Along with the UNC Charlotte Escrow Program, the School of Dance also offers a program for current undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at UNC Charlotte. The Professional Training certificate in dance allows college students to earn an undergraduate certificate in dance while pursuing a university degree.

Registration for both programs begins on March 30, 2009, at UNC Charlotte for the fall 2009 semester. For more information contact School Director Darleen Callaghan at 704.372.0101 x115 or dancepl@ncdance.org.
