The Intermediate Division offers classes in ballet, pointe, variations, pas de deux, modern, jazz and musical theater dance to young adults ages 11–18. Students in this division are offered the opportunity to join one of the North Carolina Dance Theatre Student Ensembles to supplement their classroom training with performance experience. They may also have the opportunity to perform with the NC Dance Theatre in professional productions of Nutcracker and other full-length ballets such as Cinderella, The Little Mermaid and Snow White. Year-end Spring Student Performances are held at the Booth Playhouse in the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center.
Students may choose to study in the Intermediate Division simply to enjoy the many benefits of dance training, to prepare for college dance or to prepare for professional careers as dancers, performers, teachers, choreographers or arts administrators. Students interested in a professional career may be invited to transfer to the Pre-Professional Division after the age of 14.
Modern and Jazz Track Programs
Students interested in further developing their modern or jazz dance skills are invited to add another modern or jazz class to their current schedule at the Intermediate, Intermediate/Advanced or Advanced level based on their teacher’s recommendation. Students registered in the Intermediate, Pre-Professional or Teen/Adult Divisions can participate in the modern and jazz track programs. Regular ballet classes are not required to participate in this program, but are highly recommended to improve a student’s overall technical level.
Intermediate Division classes are held at the main campus located at 622 East 28th Street in NoDa.
